244.01   AUTHORITY OF FIRE CHIEF TO DEPUTIZE.
   (a)   Whenever the Chief of the Fire Department shall deem it necessary, he may deputize any individual or individuals to act as Volunteer Firemen and to assist in the operation of the fire-fighting apparatus owned by the Village and used by it to protect the property of residents of said Village and of certain contracting Townships against loss by fire.
   (b)   In the event the Chief of the Fire Department shall deputize any such individual to act in the capacity of a Volunteer Fireman, the individual so selected shall be considered an employee of the Village and shall receive payment for services so rendered as determined from time to time by Council.
   (c)   The Chief of the Fire Department, having deputized any person to act as a Volunteer Fireman in the service of the Village, shall forthwith notify the Clerk-Treasurer of such appointment, and the name of the person so appointed shall immediately be placed upon the roster of Volunteer Firemen serving the Village.
   (d)   The Officer of the Day, in the absence of the Chief of the Fire Department, shall, in the Chief's place, be authorized to deputize such persons as he or she shall deem necessary to assist in the operation of fire equipment, and for such purpose he or she shall have the same powers as are herein granted to the Chief of the Fire Department.
