§ 155.36 RESIDENTIAL DISTRICTS.
   Street graphics are not permitted in residential districts, except as provided in this section, or in § 155.23 (A), (B), (C), and (E) and § 155.04. Items of information are limited to ten.
   (A)   Single-family residential.
      (1)   Two single-family residential name signs not exceeding two square feet each in area shall be permitted per single-family dwelling. Such signs shall be allowed on mail boxes, but shall otherwise be located at least six feet from the nearest property line. Two street number signs not exceeding two square feet in area shall be allowed in any residential district. Such signs shall be allowed on mailboxes and over doorways but shall otherwise be located at least six feet from the nearest property line. Height shall not exceed ten feet.
      (2)   A subdivision may be identified by permanent entranceway signs not exceeding six feet in height nor 24 square feet in area. One such sign may be erected at each vehicular entrance into the subdivision.
   (B)   Multi-family residential.
      (1)   Where any multiple family dwelling is permitted to maintain a professional rental office, one promotional sign shall be permitted at each vehicular entrance from a public right-of-way and at each major public entrance to the dwelling for all offices in the dwelling. The signs shall not exceed ten square feet. Permitted signs shall be located at least six feet from any property line, and the top of the sign shall not be over six feet above the ground, whether free-standing or on a building. The sign shall include only the name, address, and information phone number.
      (2)   Multi-family complexes may be identified by permanent entranceway signs, not exceeding six feet in height nor 24 square feet in area. One such sign may be erected, on private property, at each vehicular entrance from a public right-of-way, but no closer than 15 feet to the nearest right-of-way or property line.
   (C)   Single-family and multiple-family residential.
      (1)   Civic, religious, and quasi-public signs:
         (a)   Name, directional, and informational signs, and emblems of service clubs, places of worship, civic organizations, and quasi-public uses shall be permitted on private property if located in accordance with the building setback requirements of the zoning restrictions relating to the classification of the property on which the sign is placed. Such signs shall not exceed a total area of 32 square feet.
         (b)   Alternately a sign, not to exceed 24 square feet may be erected in front of the building setback line, but no closer than 15 feet to the nearest right-of-way or property line. Such sign or signs on a corner lot may face each street but the total area shall not exceed the maximum amount herein provided. The top of each sign shall not exceed six feet above grade, measured at the sign site.
      (2)   Temporary informational signs for public, charitable, or religious events. When any institution is having a public, charitable, education, or religious event, located entirely within the premises of that institution, signage may be erected announcing the event. Signage may not be displayed for more than 30 days per calendar year. One temporary sign announcing such an event, located no less than 15 feet from the property line and not exceeding 12 square feet in area, is permitted. The top of the sign shall be no more than six feet above ground level.
      (3)   Integral signs. Names of buildings, dates of erection, monumental citations, commemorative tablets, and the like when carved into stone, concrete, or similar material or made of bronze, aluminum, or other permanent type construction and made an integral part of the structure, shall be allowed.
      (4)   Signs and displays in conjunction with nationally recognized holidays and days of commemoration, erected on a temporary basis, festive in nature and designed to bring pleasure to the general public may be allowed. Such signs shall be allowed no more than 21 days prior to the event and must be removed within ten days after the holiday. Items of information may exceed ten.
      (5)   Public signs. Signs of a noncommercial nature and in the public interest, erected by, or on the order of, a public officer in the performance of a public duty, such as directional signs, regulatory signs, warning signs, and informational signs, are allowed.
      (6)   One sign announcing a garage sale shall be permitted up to a total area of three square feet for each zoning lot. Said sign shall be confined within private property and shall not be less than 15 feet from the nearest edge of the street pavement and 50 feet from the nearest curb intersection of any street or road. Said sign shall not be displayed more than 30 days prior to and seven days after the event for which intended.
