3-1-3: OTHER DEPARTMENTAL OFFICERS:
   A.   Deputy Police Chief: There is hereby created in and for the village the office of deputy chief of police.
      1.   Appointment: The deputy chief of police shall be appointed by the chief of police and may be appointed from any rank of sworn, full time officers of the village's police department, and must have at least five (5) years of full time service as a police officer in the Oak Brook police department.
      2.   Rank; Term: The deputy chief of police position shall be an exempt rank subordinate exclusively to the chief of police. Said deputy chief of police shall serve at the discretion of the chief and, if removed from the position, shall revert to the rank held immediately prior to the appointment to the deputy chief position.
   B.   Police Commanders:
      1.   Appointments; Number: The office of police commander is hereby created. Police commanders shall be appointed by the board of fire and police commissioners of the village pursuant to the statutes of the state.
      2.   Duties: The duties of police commander shall be to give attention to the affairs of said village, preserve the peace, order, safety, cleanliness and to otherwise enforce the ordinances of the village and the orders of the chief of police and the village president. The commander shall be subject to the direct supervision of the chief of police and shall at all times be subject to the rules and regulations of the board of fire and police commissioners.
   C.   Police Sergeants:
      1.   Appointments; Number: The office of police sergeant is hereby created. Police sergeants shall be appointed by the board of fire and police commissioners of the village pursuant to the statutes of the state and rules of the board.
      2.   Duties: The duties of police sergeant shall be to give attention to the affairs of the village, preserve the peace, order, safety and cleanliness, and to otherwise enforce the ordinances of the village, and the orders of the police chief, any other superior officer, commander and the village president.
      3.   Supervision: Police sergeants shall be under the direct supervision of designated superior officers, and shall at all times be subject to the rules and regulations of the board of fire and police commissioners.
   D.   Police Patrol Officers:
      1.   Appointments; Number: The position of police patrol officer is hereby created. Police patrol officers shall be appointed by the board of fire and police commissioners of the village pursuant to the statutes of the state and the rules of the board of fire and police commissioners.
      2.   Duties: The duties of police patrolmen shall be to give their attention to the affairs of said village, preserve the peace, order, safety, cleanliness and to otherwise enforce all provisions of this code and other ordinances of the village, and the orders of superior officers and the village president.
      3.   Supervision: Police patrol officers shall be under the direct supervision of their superior officers, and shall at all times be subject to the rules and regulations of the board of fire and police commissioners.
