(a) Carbon monoxide detectors shall be installed in all new residential dwelling units and other locations provided herein:
(1) All single-family homes.
(2) All Multifamily housing units.
(3) All apartment units that are served by a self-contained heating plant or furnace that is installed within the individual apartment unit.
(b) A carbon monoxide detector shall be installed in or adjacent to all common laundry areas and/or boiler/heating areas where fossil fuel appliances are installed in all apartment buildings and all multifamily dwelling structures. Compliance with this subsection shall be made by September 1, 1996. The Bureau of Fire Prevention shall inspect and approve the location and installation of these required carbon monoxide detectors.
