(a) In General. The Wastewater Mechanic must possess the skills necessary for repairing and performing preventive maintenance on all motorized and mechanical equipment in the Wastewater Treatment Department.
(b) Distinguishing Features of the Class. The equipment for which the Wastewater Mechanic will be responsible for maintenance and repair includes but is not limited to pumps, blowers, compressors, electric motors, gear drives, variable speed drives, chemical feed systems, conveyors, belt thickeners, filter presses, gates, actuators, valves and cranes.
(c) Duties. The Wastewater Mechanic shall:
(1) Maintain and repair the above listed equipment and any equipment throughout the wastewater plants, compost facility or remote pump stations.
(2) Assist laborers with clearing blockages from residential sewer laterals and sewer mains, cleaning sewer mains, televising sewers, excavating and repairing sewers and any other duties that may be required.
(3) Assist Operators with plant operational duties including but not limited to entering and cleaning treatment tanks, hosing tanks and equipment, operating and monitoring equipment.
(d) Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. The Wastewater Mechanic must possess the knowledge and skills to:
(1) Do any repair required on motorized and mechanical equipment in the Wastewater Treatment Department. The required skills include knowledgeable experience in the repair of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment. The mechanic must have the mechanical aptitude to perform plumbing, pipefitting and welding. She or he should understand basic electric principles and be able to perform shaft alignment, fabrication of parts, troubleshooting and analyzing faulty equipment to determine remedial action.
(2) Work on equipment in confined spaces, wells, or limited access areas which would require him or her to use ladders or steep stairwells to reach the necessary equipment.
(3) Lift and move heavy objects in the performance of duties.
(e) Basic Qualifications. The Wastewater Mechanic must possess a current valid Ohio driver's license and a high school diploma or equivalent. The Wastewater Mechanic must have the skills and ability necessary to use a self-contained breathing apparatus. She or he must possess effective English language written and oral communication skills.
(f) Additional Requirements.
(1) The Wastewater Mechanic, being on call twenty-four hours a day, must have his or her own transportation to and from the job site.
(2) At the discretion of the Department Head, the Wastewater Mechanic may be required to obtain a commercial driver's license as a condition of maintaining employment.
