240.10 AUXILIARY POLICE.
   (a)   There is hereby established the position of auxiliary police officer.
   (b)   The duties to be performed by auxiliary police officers shall include, but are not limited to, assisting regular police officers when needed in the control of traffic, crowds, communications, civic activities, parades, demonstrations and all other activities which, in the opinion of the Chief of Police, could be legally and properly performed by auxiliary police officers.

   (c)   The number of auxiliary police officers shall be as Council shall from time to time determine.

   (d)   Auxiliary police will be compensated only when the work assignment is authorized by the Chief of Police. Volunteer riding in cruisers and training sessions are noncompensative type functions and must also be authorized by the Chief.
   (e)   Auxiliary police officers shall be appointed by the Chief of Police after meeting certain qualifications.

   (f)   All auxiliary police officers shall be under the direct supervision and control of the Chief of Police or any other officer designated by the Chief to act in the capacity of officer in charge of the Auxiliary Police Unit.
   (g)   Each member of the Auxiliary Police Unit shall be bonded in the amount of five hundred dollars ($500.00). Such bond shall be paid by each auxiliary police officer.

   (h)   All persons holding the position of auxiliary police officer shall be residents of the Municipality or a resident of any city contiguous to the Municipality.
