145.07.7 FUNERAL AND BEREAVEMENT LEAVE.
Regular employees are permitted to use up to three days of bereavement leave whenever there is a death in the immediate family (spouse and children) or whenever one of the following dies: father, mother step-parent brother, sister, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in law, sister-in-law, grandparent, grandchild or other person designated by the Council.
Leave of absence without pay is allowed for other funerals when approved by the employee's supervisor.
Employee's seeking to use sick leave or funeral leave are required to call their supervisor at least 2 hours prior to their regular starting time. Failure to do so will result in the employee being counted as missing, thus no sick leave benefit will be paid and the employee is subject to further disciplinary action. Persons working shift work should give at least two hours notice so that a replacement can be found.
In order for leave to be paid, the employee may be required to provide documentation to the Mayor. This information may consist of either a letter from the funeral home or a newspaper obituary.
