(A) After removal of a vehicle found to be a junked or abandoned vehicle, the owner or person entitled to possession may at any time within 20 days of notice of removal request in writing a hearing to determine if probable cause existed for removing the vehicle. The request must be filed with the magistrate’s office at the County Courthouse in Beaufort, North Carolina. The magistrate will set the hearing within 72 hours of receipt of the request, and the hearing will be conducted in accordance with the provisions of G.S. § 20-219.11(c), (d), (e) and (f).
(B) At any stage of the proceedings, including before the probable cause hearing, the owner may obtain possession of the vehicle by paying the towing and storage fees or by posting a bond for double the amount of the storage and towing fees. The bond shall be in the form as provided in § 91.075 but in the amount and for the purpose herein provided.
