§ 92.053 TESTING AND MONITORING.
   (A)   Entry into a confined space should be prohibited until testing of the atmosphere has been done from the outside prior to each entry. The tests performed should include those for oxygen content, flammability, and toxic materials. The gas detector should be calibrated in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines or manuals. Each calibration should be recorded and available for one year after the last calibration date.
   (B)   Entry into a confined space-for any type of “hot work” should be prohibited when tests indicate the concentration of flammable gases in the atmosphere is greater than 10% of the lower flammability unit.
   (C)   The maximum eight-hour time-weighted average of any airborne contaminant to which an employee may be exposed should at no time exceed the permissible exposure limits for the contaminant as listed in OSHA Standard 19 C.F.R. part 1910, subpart Z.
   (D)   When the contaminants in the atmosphere cannot be kept within permissible exposure levels, the employee should wear approved respiratory protection.
