GENERAL PROVISIONS
In pursuance of the authority conferred by the North Carolina General Statutes in Chapter 160A, Art. 8, Section 174, General Ordinance Authority, and Section 175, Enforcement (§§160A-174, 160A-175); Chapter 160D, Art. 7, Zoning, the Board of Commissioners of the Town of Murphy, North Carolina, hereby ordains and enacts into law the following articles and sections.

The purpose of this chapter is to lessen congestion in the streets; secure safety from fire, panic and other dangers; promote health and the general welfare; provide adequate light and air; prevent the overcrowding of land; avoid undue concentration of population; facilitate the adequate provision of transportation, water, sewerage, schools, parks and other public requirements; conserve the value of buildings; and encourage the most appropriate use of land throughout the Town of Murphy.
