(A) Notwithstanding language elsewhere in the code to the contrary, directors of town departments (and the Zoning Administrator in the case of the Land Codes Inspector) shall designate Code Enforcement Officials to administer and enforce the provisions of this code as defined herein. Such designees shall have such powers and perform such duties as may be provided for him or her in those chapters or as provided in any other town or state ordinances or statutes.
(1) Fire Department. Any fire- or fire hazard-related code sections as described in Section 101.2 of the 2018 South Carolina Fire Code, as may be amended, as well as Chapter 92 of this code.
(2) Engineering and Development Services, Building Inspection Division. All items related to building codes pertaining to residential and nonresidential buildings as covered and referenced in Chapters 150 and 152 of this code.
(3) Engineering and Development Services. All items related to the MS4 Program as permitted, constructed, and maintained in the town, as well, as provisions of Chapters 153, 155. and 158 of this code.
(4) Planning, land use, and neighborhoods. The code official in the PLAN Department is known as the Land Codes Inspector. The duties of Land Codes Inspector include enforcement of Chapter 156, Zoning Code, Chapter 50, Garbage and Refuse. Chapter 93, Nuisances, Chapter 95, Streets and Sidewalks, and Chapter 96, Political Signs, of this code, except as hereinafter expressly designated to another code official, as well as any codes related to usage of land and yards outside the envelope of a building.
(5) Police. Maintain their typical authority as proscribed by state code for any and all enforcement of codes within the town.
(B) In complex situations, where there are a variety of related violations and concerns across the authority of different departments, the departments will coordinate responses to improve response time, as appropriate.
