The positions of Sergeant provided for herein shall be filled after a competitive examination from those persons presently full-time members of the Division of Police in accordance with the civil service laws of the City or, in the absence thereof, in accordance with the civil service laws of the State. Regular members of the Division of Police shall be appointed by the Safety Director in accordance with the civil service laws of the City or, in the absence thereof, in accordance with the civil service laws of the State. All existing full-time police officers presently serving shall be considered as members of the Division of Police without re-appointment. (Ord. 1962-56. Passed 5-22-62.)
