(a) Fire walls shall be required, separating living units in buildings constructed or remodeled for the following uses: townhouses, row houses, multiplexes or other multifamily buildings where dwelling units are constructed side by side. Fire walls shall be constructed of masonry materials consisting of solid or hollow masonry units laid in mortar of a type necessary to produce a minimum three-hour fire resistance, or shall be constructed of concrete with a three-hour fire-resistance rating.
(b) Fire walls shall conform as to strength and stability with accepted engineering practice in the design and construction of fire walls or exterior bearing walls of the same type materials.
(c) A fire wall which requires lateral support to supplement and insure its stability shall be so designed and constructed that the structure on any one side of same could be razed without jeopardizing the structural stability of the fire wall.
