1509.03 WIDTH AND MARKINGS.
   Where the Director of Public Safety has ordered fire lanes to be established on private property devoted to public use, it shall be the responsibility of the property owner to cause such areas to be clearly designated as fire lanes through the use of appropriate signs and pavement markings approved by the Director of Public Safety. The Director of Public Safety shall establish a time frame for installation of such signs. The design and location of such signs and markers shall be specified by the Director of Public Safety and shall not be less than the standards required for such signs and markers on public highways as prescribed by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
   (a)   Width. Fire lanes shall be of such width as to permit access and operation of firefighting equipment and personnel and the egress of occupants. Fire lanes necessary for fire apparatus access shall have a minimum width of eighteen (18) feet. Fire lanes necessary for fire apparatus operations shall have a minimum width of twenty-four (24) feet.
   (b)   Markings. Fire lanes shall be marked with signs, marked curbs and road surfaces that have the words “FIRE LANE-NO PARKING” painted in contrasting colors at a size and spacing approved by the Fire Chief or his designee.
   (c)   Maintenance. All designated fire lanes signs and markings shall be maintained in a clean and legible condition at all times and replaced when necessary to insure adequate visibility.
