5-2-6: MEMBERS; APPOINTMENT AND DUTIES:
   A.   Appointment; Probation: All new members will be appointed by the board of fire officers and are on probation for one year after their appointment.
   B.   Approval Of Members: New members, upon completion of their probation period, must be approved by the majority of the fire department.
   C.   Disciplinary Actions: Any firefighter causing any irregularity or breaking any rules of the fire department shall be questioned by the board of fire officers and be subject to disciplinary actions (example: counseling, probation or removal).
   D.   Complaint Against Department: Any firefighter making a complaint as to the operation of the fire department will make it before the board of fire officers in writing.
   E.   Business With City Officials: Any business the members have with the city officials or the city council that affect the operation of the fire department will be taken care of by the board of fire officers.
   F.   Driving Apparatus: All new members on probation cannot drive apparatus until properly trained and approved before the board of officers.
   G.   Driver Of First Truck On Scene: The driver of the first truck on the scene is responsible for filling out all reports, and will be incident commander until relieved by an officer.
   H.   Responsibilities Of Drivers: Drivers are responsible for any unsafe driving and/or damages of apparatus, and subject to counseling and possible probation and/or suspension by the board of officers.
   I.   Maintenance; Report: All drivers are responsible for their apparatus being cleaned and put back into service. (A maintenance report of any defective equipment shall be filled out and turned in.)
   J.   Physical Examination Required: All new members are subject to taking a physical examination. (Ord. 1995-02, 5-11-1995)
   K.   Residence: Effective February 8, 2007, members will reside no more than five (5) miles outside the McLoud fire department district. (Ord. 2012-01, 1-26-2012)
   L.   Duty Regarding Absences: Members that are unable to attend meetings or training classes must contact any officer before the scheduled event, otherwise it will be unexcused.
   M.   Excused Absences:
      1.   Excused absences are as follows:
         a.   Work.
         b.   Vacation.
         c.   Immediate family hardship.
         d.   Sickness.
         e.   School/church activities.
         f.   School.
      2.   If not covered by subsection M1 of this section, the absence is unexcused. If any abuse is suspected of the excused absences, as listed in subsection M1 of this section, members will be subject to counseling, probation, suspension or removal.
   N.   Use Of Personal Vehicles: Firefighters may be required to drive personally owned vehicle to the scene.
   O.   Bunker Gear: All firefighters are required to have their bunker gear (coats, pants, helmet, gloves and Nomex) with them at the scene. (Ord. 1995-02, 5-11-1995)
