(a) There is hereby created in the full-time unclassified service of the City the position of Fire Chief. The Fire Chief shall be certified and/or licensed by the appropriate agency of the State of Ohio and shall be well qualified to, and, under such general rules and regulations as the Director of Public Safety may prescribe, and shall supervise the operation and personnel of the Division of Fire. The Fire Chief shall be responsible for the Bureau of Fire Fighting, the Bureau of Fire Prevention and the Bureau of Ambulance and Emergency Medical Service, and shall be in charge of:
(1) The stationing, assignment, dispatching, training, schooling and activities of members of the Division;
(2) The stationing, assignment, dispatching, purchase, disposal, care and maintenance of fire fighting, first aid and rescue vehicles, equipment and material; and
(3) Measures for fire prevention, storage and transportation of explosives and inflammable material and inspection of premises for the purpose of preventing fires or hazardous conditions in the event of fire.
(b) The Fire Chief shall, as directed by the Director of Public Safety, assist the Building Official in the performance of his duties, and perform such other inspection duties as may be from time to time designated or assigned by the Director of Public Safety.
(c) The Fire Chief shall be appointed by the Mayor subject to confirmation by a majority of the members of Council and shall serve at the pleasure of Council.
