(A) In the replacement of the various types of asphaltic street pavements, the restoration shall be made with an asphalt mixture which shall correspond to one of the mixtures specified in the specifications of § 153.08. Rolling will be required for all longitudinal openings. The total depth of the bituminous wearing surface shall normally be two and one-half inches.
(B) Streets which have been resurfaced with asphaltic or bituminous concrete, using a machine paver shall be considered equal to sheet asphalt pavement irrespective of the kind of base previously existing. The restoration shall consist of a concrete base and sheet asphalt surface and shall be similar in all respects to sheet asphalt restoration.
(C) In accordance with the specifications, § 153.11, the top of the concrete base is placed uniformly two and one-half inches below the grade of the street surface. It is roughened or marked so that it will retain the bituminous binder. The binder is placed loose on this concrete base and raked so that it is uniformly at, or below the finished grade of the street. The binder should then be rolled so that it is ready to receive traffic. Where the cut is too small to receive a roller, it can be rolled with a loaded dual-wheeled truck provided the driver of the truck is careful to roll in straight lines parallel with the side of the trench. Smaller cuts may be tamped. After compaction by traffic, the binder should be the same depth over the entire area, below the street grade between one-half inch and three-fourths inch.
