(A) A street name sign of standard design, as recommended by the ETSB and approved by the County Engineer, shall be erected on a standard pole at each intersection of public streets and at the intersections of public streets and officially named private streets within the unincorporated area of this county. At least one street name sign post displaying the name of each street shall be erected and maintained at each intersection in the corner most suitable as determined by the County Engineer.
(B) (1) Street name signs shall be erected and maintained by the County Highway Department. The cost of materials and any specialized equipment for the installation and maintenance of street name signs shall be borne by the ETSB, except as otherwise specified in this chapter.
(2) Street name signs for public streets shall have white reflective numbers and lettering on a green reflective background. Street name signs for private streets named under this chapter shall have white reflective numbers and lettering on a blue reflective background. The County Engineer shall set the reflectivity grade standard for both letters and background. Street name signs and posts shall meet all applicable Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration safety standards for size and reflectivity.
(3) Street name signs for new subdivisions: the developer shall be responsible for initial installation of new street name poles and signs as cited in the county subdivision ordinance, § 154.072.
(4) A developer may not install decorative street name poles and signs for new subdivision streets.
(5) Unofficial private street name signs shall not be erected on any public rights-of-way, nor shall the unofficial street name signs have the same design and/or color background as county-maintained street name signs, nor shall the signs be posted in such a manner as to cause confusion for emergency responders or for the public, as judged by the County Engineer and the ETSB. The signs shall be in violation of this chapter.
(6) No person shall remove or deface any street sign or pole that is erected or maintained by the County Highway Department.
