549.08 DISCHARGING FIREARMS.
   (a)   It shall be unlawful for any person to shoot or discharge any firearm within the City, except police officers engaged in the lawful performance of their duties, and except other persons engaged in the lawful defense of persons or property and except at an indoor shooting facility that is constructed, licensed and operated in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and provided: that no handgun shall be in excess of .50 caliber; no rifle shall be in excess of .223 caliper; and no automatic weapons shall be allowed except for law officer training purposes.

   (c)   Whoever violates this section shall be guilty of a minor misdemeanor.

   (d)   The discharge of one or more blank rounds of ammunition for ceremonial and patriotic events and rehearsal/preparations for said events is lawful within the City of Loveland if approved in writing by the Safety Director no less than twenty-four hours in advance. Patriotic and ceremonial events include but are not limited to: the funeral service of a United States armed services veteran or any City-sponsored event commemorating an event in United States history, personal sacrifice, and other military or political events.
