(A) It shall be unlawful for any person to open, close, otherwise operate, or damage any valve or any fire hydrant, water pipe, water service, flushing connections, or other public water facilities located anywhere within Louisville Metro or to otherwise tamper with any of such hydrants, pipes, water service, flushing connection, or other public water facilities, unless such person has a written permit to do so, issued in the form prescribed by the Louisville Water Company and signed by an authorized agent or representative of the company. Any person opening or closing such pipes, hydrants, water service, flushing connection, or other public water facilities shall have said permit in their possession at all times and shall produce same when so requested by any Metro Government official. The above prohibition shall not apply to firefighters in the authorized performance of their official duties, nor to authorized personnel of the Louisville Water Company acting at the direction of the management of the company.
(B) To protect the public water supply from contamination, a backflow prevention assembly approved by the Louisville Water Company shall be installed on all commercial, industrial, fire, and irrigation services.
