In the enforcement of this chapter the Los Angeles Police Department shall perform the following duties when requested by the Department of Transportation:
(a) It shall, whenever possible, obtain the names of the registered and legal owners of all identifiable vehicles believed to constitute a public nuisance within the meaning of this chapter.
(b) It shall determine whether any identifiable vehicle investigated pursuant to Subsection (a) of this section has been involved in or is the subject of any crime, and if so, it shall process such vehicle in accordance with the law.
(c) It shall provide the Department of Transportation with all necessary information pertaining to vehicles which it has investigated pursuant to this section to enable the said Department of Transportation to perform the duties imposed by this chapter.
(d) The Police Commission, in establishing rules governing official police garages under Section 103.204 of the Los Angeles Municipal Code, shall require that the appropriate official police garage must remove the abandoned vehicles or parts thereof from a specific private property within 48 hours after receiving such notification from the Vehicle Nuisance Section of the Department of Transportation.
