A Town Planning Commission may be created for the Town. It shall consist of five (5) appointive members, all of whom shall be residents of the Town, and the Mayor and the Town Engineer (if any) as ex officio members. The appointive members shall be nominated by the Mayor and appointed by the Board of Trustees and shall serve for terms of three (3) years. Of the original appointive members, one shall serve for a term of one year; two (2) shall serve for a term of two (2) years; and two (2) shall serve for a term of three (3) years. Vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired terms. The members shall serve without compensation. The Board of Trustees may remove members of the commission for cause and may carry out the functions of the commission until a commission is appointed. (2014 Code § 12-101)
A. Officers: The Town Planning Commission shall elect a Chair, a Vice Chair, and Secretary, who shall serve until June 1, after their election, with terms of one year, expiring on June 1 thereafter. The Secretary need not be a member of the commission.
B. Meetings: The commission shall determine the time and place of its regular meetings, and the Chair or any three (3) members may call special meetings of the commission. (2014 Code § 12-102)
In general, the Town Planning Commission shall have such powers and duties prescribed therefor to promote Municipal planning, and to carry out the purposes of Municipal planning as allowed by State law and all other powers and duties now or hereafter prescribed therefor by any other provisions of ordinance or law empowering the commission to act.
