10-1-3: SCHOOL CROSSINGS:
Permanently mounted automatic school crossing stop signs shall be installed at the locations hereinafter specified and all said signals shall bear red and amber lenses and signs marked "School Crossing" and "Stop on Red Signal". After said signals are installed, they shall be placed in operation during regularly scheduled school crossing periods only and shall not be operated outside of such periods.
When said signs are in operation, all pedestrian and vehicular traffic shall stop on the red signal and obey the flashing indications and signs on said signals, and any person who shall fail to obey said signals shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be fined as established by Title 1, Chapter 20, “Fees, Fines, Insurance, Guarantees, and Regulatory Measures” for each offense.
   (A)   A school crossing sign, S 201, as listed in the "Manual On Uniform Traffic Control Devices For Streets And Highways", state of Illinois department of transportation, shall be placed and a crosswalk designated at the following areas:
      Kingston Avenue north of Division
      Kingston Avenue opposite Schiesher School
      Middleton Avenue opposite Tate Woods School
   The placement of signs and designations of crosswalks shall be the responsibility of the street department of the village.
   (B)   The following sign, S 301, as listed in the "Manual On Uniform Traffic Control Devices For Streets And Highways", state of Illinois department of transportation, shall be placed in the following locations:
      Division and Kingston; Division eastbound, Kingston southbound and northbound
      Kingston Avenue; southbound north of Gamble, northbound south of Ohio
      Middleton Avenue and Schwartz; northbound on Schwartz
   These signs shall be placed at a reasonable distance from the affected schools taking into consideration intersecting streets, driveways and other appurtenances. The Street Department of the Village shall be responsible for the placement of these signs. (Ord. 96-2776, 5-20-1996; amd. Ord. 2021-4921, 9-20-2021)
