1458.05   EXCEPTIONS.
   (A)   Public Utilities. This Electrical Code shall not apply to:
      (1)   Any work done in connection with the erection, construction, maintenance or repair of lines for the transmission of electricity from the source of supply to the service or on the premises used by electric light plants authorized to generate and sell electrical current;
      (2)   Any work done by such plants on premises owned or controlled by them or in the installation, maintenance and repair, on the premises of customers, of service connections, meters and other apparatus remaining on the property of such plants after installation;
      (3)   Any work done in connection with the lighting of public streets, alleys, parks or bridges;
      (4)   Any work done by telephone and telegraph companies incorporated for the transmission of intelligence by electricity; and
      (5)   Any work done in connection with the installation, maintenance or repair of wires, conduits, apparatus, fixtures or other appliances used by such electric light plants which are necessary for, or incident to, their business, whether or not such wires, conduits, apparatus, fixtures or other appliances are on their own premises.
   These exceptions shall not apply to new building construction, which shall conform with the provisions of this Electrical Code and shall require the necessary electrical permits and inspection fees in accordance with Sections 1466.01 and 1470.14.
   (B)   Temporary Theatrical Work. Electricians employed by theatrical companies may install the temporary wiring and appliances required for the purpose of the engagement of such companies, subject to the supervision of a person licensed under this Electrical Code.
   (C)   Maintenance in Factories. Electricians regularly employed as maintenance electricians by factories and manufacturing companies, other than holders of an electrical contractor's license, may install such electrical wiring, conduits and appliances or make such repairs thereon as may be required, without obtaining any certificate required by this Electrical Code, but only on the premises of such firms or corporations. If such electricians desire to install electrical wiring, conduit or appliances or make repairs thereon on other premises than those of the firms or corporations by which they are regularly employed, they shall first apply for and take the examination of the Board of Examiners and become licensed in accordance with the provisions of this Electrical Code. Any exception herein set forth shall not apply to new building construction, alterations or additions.
   (D)   Maintenance on Municipal Property. Electricians regularly employed as maintenance electricians by the City, but only on the premises of Municipal property, shall not be subject to the provisions of this Electrical Code. Any exception herein set forth shall not apply to new building construction, alterations or additions, which shall conform with the provisions of this Electrical Code and shall require the necessary electrical permits and inspection fees, in accordance with Sections 1466.01 and 1470.14.
