234.06   ESTABLISHMENT OF A FIFTY-SIX HOUR WEEK.
   (a)   In order to provide for the establishment of a fifty-six hour week, except as otherwise stipulated herein, on and after July 1, 1969, the Fire Chief shall be required to divide the membership of the Fire Department into not less than three platoons and to operate the Department as a three-platoon system by at all times keeping one platoon on duty twenty-four consecutive hours. The average work week shall not exceed fifty-six hours per week, except in cases of emergency.
   (b)   The provisions of subsection (a) hereof relative to the establishment of a fifty-six hour week shall not apply to the following positions and class titles in the Fire Department: Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, fire prevention inspector I, fire prevention inspector II, arson investigator I, arson investigator II, and any trainee during his probationary period. The requirements of subsection (a) hereof shall not apply during any period of emergency.
