(a) Any member may submit prospective names for membership in the Department. Department members who submit the name of a prospective member will act as sponsor, and as such will work with and be responsible for advising, assisting and otherwise keeping both the Department and the prospective member aware of his progress. The prospective member must completely fill out the application for employment from the Village office. They must obtain a basic physical from a qualified physician stating that the prospective member is capable of carrying out the activities of a firefighter (good overall physical condition). The cost of the physical is covered by the Village. The Mayor must then study all of the information about the prospective member and then decide if they should be placed on a one year probation period, served by all new members.

(b) A new member’s probationary period shall begin by appointment by the Mayor with the advice and consent of Council. Within their one year probationary period, the applicant must complete their thirty-six hour basic T & I fire training and meet the attendance requirements of the Department.

(c) After all this training and service time of one year has been completed, the membership shall make a recommendation to the Mayor and Council as to whether or not to make the probationary member a full-fledged firefighter. The final appointment shall be made under Ohio R. C. 737.22.
(d) Every three months during the trainee's one year of probation there may be discussions as to the progression of the training.
(e) In the event that there are more applicants than positions to be filled, the applicant with the earliest application takes the position and the others remain on probation.
(f) Upon the appointment of the trainee to the position of permanent firefighter, they will be outfitted with a dress uniform, coat and other equipment.
