5-2-9: IMPOUNDMENT AND REDEMPTION:
   A.   Nuisance Animals; Impoundment Authorized: Any dog or other animal doing any of the acts prohibited in section 5-2-8 of this chapter is hereby declared to be a public nuisance, and such animal may be seized and impounded as provided herein.
   B.   Notice To Owner; Impoundment Period; Disposition Of Animals: After such animal is impounded, the Police Department, animal warden or authorized representative shall ascertain whether the animal is licensed and, if so, shall, within a reasonable time, notify the person to whom the license was issued that said animal has been impounded and may be redeemed. Impounded animals will be transferred to the Lake County Department of Public Health the next business day. The owner of such a transferred animal will be responsible for all fees charged by the Lake County Department of Public Health.
   C.   Redemption Of Impounded Animal: Any dog or other animal impounded pursuant to the provisions of this section may be redeemed upon payment of the required redemption fee, fines, license and vaccination fees as provided herein. The animal shall be returned to the owner, provided he shall:
      1.   Show satisfactory proof of ownership.
      2.   Agree to pay any fines or penalties imposed for violation of this chapter.
      3.   Agree to pay the cost of keeping the animal while impounded by the Village at its pound. (Ord. 2009-06-621, 6-15-2009)
         a.   The fee for each day an animal is housed/transported by the Lake Zurich Police Department shall be pursuant to title 13, chapter 1, "Fee Schedule", of this Code. (Ord. 2009-06-621, 6-15-2009; amd. Ord. 2018-12-279, 12-3-2018)
      4.   Secure an animal license or rabies vaccination, if applicable and due.
   D.   Liability For Fines And Costs: If ownership of the animal is established and the owner refuses to redeem the same, he shall remain obligated to pay all fines and impoundment expenses. (Ord. 2009-06-621, 6-15-2009)
