"Drug" means and includes all medicines and preparations recognized in the United States Pharmacopoeia, or in the National Formulary or its appendix, or in other recognized standard works for internal or external use, and any substance or mixture of substances whatsoever manufactured, sold or given away for use in the treatment of any disease of either man or animal.
