(A) The practice of going in and upon private residences or residence properties in the city by solicitors, peddlers, hawkers, itinerant merchants and transient vendors of merchandise, not having been requested or invited to do so by the owner or owners, occupant or occupants of said private residences, for the purpose of soliciting orders for sale of goods, wares and merchandise, or for the purpose of disposing of or peddling the same, is hereby declared to be a nuisance, except as hereinafter provided.
(B) The provisions of this subchapter shall not apply to the sale, or soliciting of orders for the same, of milk, dairy products, vegetables, poultry, eggs and other farm and garden produce so far as the sale of the commodities named herein is authorized by law.
(C) The provisions of this section shall not apply to any charitable, religious, patriotic or philanthropic organization, society, association or corporation desiring to sell or distribute any items of literature or to sell or distribute any goods, wares and merchandise, for which a fee is charged or solicited from the persons other than members of such organizations upon the streets, in office or business buildings, by house to house canvas, or in public places, for a charitable, religious, patriotic or philanthropic purpose.
(D) Any resident of the city who wishes to exclude peddlers or solicitors from premises occupied by them may place upon or near the usual entrance to such premises a printed placard or sign bearing the following notice: "Peddlers and Solicitors Prohibited." Such placard shall be at least three and three-fourths inches long and three and three-fourths inches wide and the printing thereon shall not be smaller than 48 point types.
(E) No peddler or solicitor shall enter in or upon any premises or attempt to enter in or upon any premises where such placard or sign is placed and maintained.
(1990) No person other than the person occupying such premises shall remove, injure, or deface such placard or sign.
