(A) Floor drains may be installed by means of Y fittings inserted in the building drain and provided with a four inch cast iron deep seal trap and fitted with a heavy barred strainer and back water valve or a screw type plug normally closed.
(B) Where the floor of an entrance area to a basement or a round floor is more than four inches lower than the basement or ground floor, an area drain may be installed as follows. The opening shall be four inches in diameter and provided with a heavy barred strainer set so that it cannot be easily removed. The outlet pipe shall be of cast iron and shall be connected into the sewer through a frost-proof trap. All area drains shall be provided with an approved back water valve, set where it can be conveniently reached for cleaning. All area drains located outside of buildings shall be connected to the storm drain whenever the grade of the main storm sewer will permit.
