13.20.010: DEFINITIONS:
ALS EMERGENCY: Peripheral venous puncture, initiation of nonmedicated IV, blood glucose with automated glucometry, advance airway management of esophagus and trachea, draw peripheral blood specimens, initiate and maintain intraosseous infusions. Emergency transport. If only oxygen given, vitals taken, etc., the transport is considered BLS.
ALS NONEMERGENCY: If patient has an IV and is being transported to another hospital or care center.
BLS EMERGENCY: Assessment and support of airway, breathing, oxygenation and circulation, prevention of disability and first aid in controlling bleeding, splinting fracture, treatment for shock, delivering babies, CPR, vitals monitored, BP, etc., no IV started.
BLS NONEMERGENCY: Nonemergency transport such as a return trip from the hospital to the patient's residence.
TREAT AND RELEASE/NO TRANSPORT: Respond to a call such as a fall to help resident back into bed but do not transport, or respond to an accident and assess patient but they refuse transport. (Ord. 2009-2 §1, 2009)
