Any person who becomes an employee of the employer on or after January 1, 1988, shall be eligible to become a member of the Plan and to participate hereunder on the first day of the month following his or her date of hire. If an employee elects not to become a member of the Plan as of the first date when he or she is eligible, then he or shall be eligible for membership hereunder at any later date.
