§ 1474.19 COMMERCIAL, INDUSTRIAL AND INSTITUTIONAL SIGNS.
   The following regulations shall apply to on-premises signs erected on any premises used for a commercial, industrial or institutional use:
   (a)   Temporary signs. Temporary signs may be erected up to 100 square feet in face area and ten feet in overall height. Temporary signs may be either wall signs or freestanding signs and shall be nonilluminated.
   (b)   Wall signs. One wall on-premises sign shall be permitted on each elevation of a business building and may be located anywhere on the building face, but may not extend beyond the limits of the building facade.
   (c)   Projecting signs. One projecting identification sign shall be permitted for each business building public entrance and shall not exceed six square feet in face area or 12 square feet in total area. Projecting signs may be located on any building face or building structural support.
   (d)   Freestanding signs. One or more freestanding on-premises sign structures shall be permitted for each business premises.
      (1)   Freestanding signs may be located anywhere on the premises, provided that the base of the sign structure is located subject to the applicable side yard setback for a building to a side property line and not closer than 100 feet to another freestanding sign on the same premises.
      (2)   The total sign area of all freestanding signs oriented toward any one street or alley shall not exceed 100 square feet or one square foot for each linear foot of street frontage, whichever is greater. Signs oriented toward more than one street shall be sized according to one street frontage only. The total sign area of all freestanding signs on any one business premises shall not exceed 300 square feet.
      (3)   The total height of a freestanding sign shall not exceed 20 feet measured from the average ground elevation at the base of the sign to the highest point thereof.
   (e)   Under canopy signs. One under canopy identification sign may be located under a canopy or permitted marquee for each business entrance located under the canopy or marquee. An under canopy sign hung under a marquee shall be, at its lowest level, at least eight feet above the sidewalk level. Under canopy signs shall not project beyond the horizontal limits of the canopy or marquee.
   (f)   Marquee signs. No marquee sign shall be permitted except for under canopy signs located under the marquee in accordance with division (e) hereof.
   (g)   Roof signs. No roof signs shall be permitted.
   (h)   Directional signs. Directional signs may be erected in addition to other permitted signs as needed to control pedestrian or vehicular traffic. The face area of such signs shall not exceed six square feet. Such signs may be wall signs, projecting signs or freestanding signs not exceeding six feet in overall height. Such signs may be located anywhere on the property, but may not project beyond the property line or into a public street or alley right of way and must maintain the same setback from a lot line as may be required for a parking facility.
