(A) Every existing multiple dwelling unit shall be provided with smoke detectors capable of sensing visible or invisible products of combustion. A minimum of one smoke detector shall be located in each of the following areas:
(1) In each apartment, suite or sleeping area;
(2) In the basement at the head of the landing leading to the ground level floor; and
(3) Any other areas of the dwelling which, by reason of the dwelling layout, would not be protected by detectors located in division (A)(1) or (2) of this section.
(B) Each detector shall be electronically wired or battery operated and connected to any lighting circuit. All multiple dwellings shall comply with this section. All single dwellings shall comply before any major alteration, addition, reoccupancy which requires a building permit, certificate or license pursuant to this code or any other applicable ordinance.
(C) In all dwellings, buildings or commercial establishments having false ceilings, a smoke detector shall be installed.
