151.02 RECREATION DIRECTOR; APPOINTMENT; QUALIFICATIONS; DUTIES.
The Recreation Director shall be appointed by the Mayor subject to the approval of a majority of the members of Council, with tenure of office during good behavior and efficient service. The Mayor may remove the Director for cause and with the consent of five members of Council. However, the Director shall be given the right to be heard at an official meeting of Council before its consent to his or her removal is given. The Recreation Board shall interview and submit a list of candidates to the Mayor, with its recommendations, out of which he or she may make the appointment. The Director shall have at least four years of college training in the recreation field or two years of college training and two years of actual work experience in the public recreation field. The Director shall be the head of the Parks and Recreation Department and shall have authority over and manage such Department, as well as carry out the overall recreation program of the Municipality, subject to the supervision of the Mayor. Employees of the Department and employees from another department assigned by the Mayor to work in Elmwood Park and Municipal Recreation Center shall be under the direct supervision and control of the Director in the performance of their respective duties.
