1501.19 INTERIOR STAIRWELL DESIGNATION AND IDENTIFICATION.
   (a)   A sign shall be provided at each floor landing in all interior exit stairways, and just inside the door into adjacent tenant space or hallways connecting two stories, designating the floor level above and below the level of exit discharge, the identification of the stairway, and the availability of roof access from that stairway. In addition, in any building two stories or more in height and containing more than one exit stairway, this sign shall identify each stairway as directed by the Municipal Fire Safety Inspector. The sign shall be located approximately five feet above the floor landing on both sides of the door in a position which is readily visible when the doors are in the opened and closed position.
   (b)   Buildings constructed prior to January 1, 2002, shall comply with the provisions of this section by January 1, 2004.
