1501.15 TESTING OF UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANKS.
(a) Every underground storage tank within the Municipality which is used for the storage of flammable liquids shall be tested at least once every five years under pressure for absence of leaks. Such testing shall be conducted under the supervision of the Fire Safety Inspector. If such testing reveals that any underground storage tank, because of loss of pressure according to accepted norms and standards for such testing, is in a leaking condition, the Fire Safety Inspector shall order the owner or operator of such underground storage tank to refrain from using such tank for storage of flammable liquids until the leaking condition is corrected or the tank is replaced.
(b) All testing of underground storage tanks shall be done in accordance with the National Fire Safety Code and also any applicable regulations promulgated by the Ohio Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulation ("BUSTR") which prohibit pressure tests with air on underground tanks due to the severe danger of causing a tank rupture or explosion of the contained liquid through normal openings.
