674.05 IMPOUND PROCEDURES.
   With the respect to animals that have been impounded, the Animal Control Officer shall proceed as follows:
   (a)    If the animal has been licensed or registered and can be so identified, or if the owner, keeper or harborer of the animal is otherwise known to the Animal Control Officer, the Animal Control Officer shall give notice either in person, by telephone, in writing or by certified mail to such owner, keeper or harborer, of his right to claim and redeem the animal with such provisions and fees as stated in this chapter. Identified dogs, at the owner's expense, shall be kept for fourteen days from the date of notice.
   (b)    The Animal Control Officer shall establish a bulletin board at the Independence Animal Shelter that is available to public inspection for lost, found and impounded animals. If the owner, keeper or harborer of an impounded dog is not known, the Animal Control Officer shall post a notice at that designated site, describing the animal and date, time and location from which the animal was impounded.
   (c)    Any dog of which the owner, keeper or harborer is not known, will be kept for seventy-two hours, excluding weekends or holidays, from the time of impoundment.
