642.26 DAMAGE TO FIRE HYDRANTS; DEPOSIT.
Whoever breaks or damages a fire hydrant in the Municipality shall be required to make a deposit with the Clerk of Court or the Mayor in the sum of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500). Thereupon, the Municipality shall make repairs or install a new fire hydrant. If the cost thereof is less than one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500), the difference shall be refunded. If the cost thereof is more than one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500), such person shall be liable for the additional balance. However, no such deposit shall be required if the person who breaks or damages a fire hydrant provides the Clerk of Court with a certificate of insurance showing automobile, homeowner's or other general or public liability coverage sufficient to cover the full cost of such replacement or repair.
