8-2-6: STOP WORK ORDERS:
   A.   The Building Inspector, Code Enforcement Officer, Chief Administrative Officer and/or Chief Operating Officer shall have the power to order all work stopped on construction, installation, alteration or repair of any building or structure, and parts and appurtenances thereof, whether regulated by this chapter, any ordinance governing the construction of such building or structure, or the Village Zoning Code, when such work is being done in violation of any provision of such ordinances (including, but not limited to, any violations of title 3, chapter 1 of this Code relating to business licenses), or when such work is being performed in an unsafe and dangerous manner. A stop work order may be verbal; provided, however, a verbal stop work order shall be followed by a written stop work order within one business day. A stop work order may be served by the Building Inspector, Code Enforcement Officer, Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Operating Officer or Police Officer. Work shall not be resumed after the issuance of a verbal or written stop work order except on the written permission of the Building Inspector, Code Enforcement Officer, Chief Administrative Officer or Chief Operating Officer and the payment of a fee as set forth in subsection 11-1-1H11 of this Code.    B.   It shall be unlawful for any person to continue any work in or about any building or structure in violation of a stop work order, except for such work as that person is directed to perform by the building inspector to remove a violation of unsafe condition. Any such person shall be subject to penalty as provided in section 1-4-1 of this Code. A separate offense shall be deemed to have been committed on each day during or on which the violation occurs or continues. (Ord. 445-90, 4-9-1990; amd. 1995 Code)
