The Township recognizes that upon the death of an employee, termination of pay may have a sudden adverse effect on employee's immediate family until insurance or other resources can be accessed. Accordingly, Council shall award an amount equal to two week's base salary for a salaried employee or two week's normal compensation for an hourly employee, for the benefit of employee’s immediate family (spouse and dependent children, stepchildren or parents living in the decedent employee's household). Council may make such award to be used for the benefit of the entire immediate family to any member of the immediate family, guardian of a member of the immediate family, or other person or persons deemed appropriate in the circumstances in the sole and absolute discretion of Council. Neither Council nor the Township shall have any responsibility for or oversight of the disbursement of such funds to the immediate family by the recipient of the award.
