181.06 FUNERAL LEAVE.
Funeral leave shall be granted to permanent full-time employees of the City under the following conditions:
   (a)    In the event of death in the immediate family, a permanent full-time City employee shall qualify for funeral leave with pay for up to three consecutive work days (twenty-four hours) for participation in funeral services or arrangements. For the purpose of this section, "immediate family" means spouse, child or stepchild, grandchild, parent, step-parent, grandparent, brother, sister, parents or step-parents of spouse and grandparents of spouse.
   (b)   Funeral pay shall be provided to accommodate absences occurring only on regularly scheduled work days at the employee's base rate of pay. Funeral leave, with pay, shall not be authorized for any period during which the employee is already in a paid or unpaid leave of absence status nor for absences not falling within seven calendar days of the date of the funeral, with the exception of vacation, sick, floating holiday, birthday holiday and paid time off. In instances where an employee is off on a scheduled paid leave such as vacation, sick, floating holiday, birthday holiday and/or paid time off and the employee experiences a loss resulting in the need for funeral leave, the employee may convert their scheduled paid leave to funeral leave.
Eligibility is further conditioned upon submission by the employee of a certificate as to the purpose and validity of leave usage and, if required by the employee's supervisor, proof of the decedent's relationship and date of death. Leave requests meeting the conditions of this section shall be approved by the employee's supervisor.
   (c)   In the event of death of a relative in other than the immediate family, as defined above, leave time with pay of up to one eight-hour work day may be taken for funeral purposes.
   (d)   In the event an employee should require additional time in excess of the allowances established in the above provisions, such additional time may be charged against vacation credits, with the approval of the supervisor.
   (e)   Use of funeral leave shall not be charged against accumulated sick leave balances.
   (f)   Permanent part-time employees shall not be eligible for funeral leave.
