177.03 ACTING OFFICERS.
Whenever any officer in the administrative service other than the City Manager is for any reason unable to attend to the performance of his duties for ten business days or more, or whenever he expects for any reason to be absent from the City for ten business days or more on any day when his office is required to be kept open, it shall be his duty at once to notify his immediate superior of such disability or absence, and such superior, if the nature of the office or its duties so require, shall designate another officer or employee under his supervision to perform the duties of such office, or may himself perform them, during the continuance of such absence or disability. When any person so designated to perform the duties of an officer who is absent or unable to perform his duties is required to sign any official document appertaining to such office, he shall sign it as acting director, or otherwise using the word "acting" before the title of the officer whose duties he is for the time performing. Subject to the provisions of the Charter, persons may be designated to perform the duties of officers in acting capacities during such periods as such offices may be vacant and, except as provided otherwise within an applicable collective bargaining agreement, such person shall be compensated pursuant to provisions of Section 183.03 of these Codified Ordinances.
