Consistent with the Families First Coronavims Response Act, Pub. L. 116-127
(a) Eligibility. Village employees, other than emergency responders, who are unable to work due to a need for leave to care for a son or daughter under eighteen (18) years of age if the school or place of care has been closed, or if the child care provider of such son or daughter is unavailable, due to a public health emergency with respect to COVID-19 declared by a Federal, state, or local authority, are eligible for leave under this section.
(b) Effective Period. This provision shall be deemed effective as of March 18, 2020 and shall end on December 31, 2020, in accordance with the Federal Law.
(c) Leave Generally.
(1) Unpaid Leave for First Ten (10) Days. The first ten (10) days for which an employee takes leave under this section shall be unpaid. However, an employee may elect to substitute vacation leave, personal leave, or medical or sick leave accrued pursuant to the codified ordinances for unpaid leave under this section.
(2) Paid Leave for Subsequent Days. The Village shall provide paid leave for each day of leave under subsection (a) that an employee takes after taking leave under subsection (a) for ten (10) days.
(d) Calculation. Paid leave under subsection (c)(2) for an employee shall be calculated based on:
(1) An amount that is not less than two-thirds of an employee's regular rate of pay; and
(2) The number of hours the employee would otherwise be normally scheduled to work.
(e) Limitations. In no event shall leave paid under this section exceed two hundred dollars ($200) per day and ten thousand dollars ($10,000) in the aggregate.
