(a) Full-time employees, after completion of one full year of service, on the employee’s anniversary date, shall be entitled to forty (40) hours of vacation time with full pay, unless the employee is covered by an employee contract which provides a different benefit. Each year thereafter on January 1, vacation shall be awarded as follows:
LENGTH OF SERVICE | VACATION HOURS EARNED |
More than 1 year - less than 5 years: | 80 hours |
More than 5 years - less than 10 years: | 120 hours |
More than 10 years - less than 15 years: | 160 hours |
More than 15 years: | 200 hours |
(Ord. 2023-01-03. Passed 1-4-23.)
(b) Any employee not in active pay status for a portion of a bi-weekly pay period shall earn a pro-rated amount of vacation for that time.
(c) Total full-time employment with the Village (except for unpaid leave of absence) shall be used to compute earned vacation time. Therefore, prior full-time work in one Village department counts toward vacation accrual when an employee moves to another position in another department. In some instances, prior part-time Village employment may count toward vacation accrual if the Mayor determines that it is proper to do so. The Mayor also has the discretion to credit prior public service with other public entities.
(d) Employees shall use accrued vacation time in the year in which it is earned and prior to the end of the calendar year. Vacation time is not to be carried over into the next calendar year, unless extraordinary conditions exist and with the prior approval of the Mayor.
(e) Employees with at least one year of service are entitled to payment for any earned but unused vacation in one calendar year at the time they resign from Village service.
(f) In the case of an employee's death, earned but unused vacation time in one (1) calendar year shall be paid to the employee's estate.
(g) Part-time, seasonal part-time, and temporary part-time employees are not entitled to vacation time.
(h) The Mayor retains the right to negotiate vacation time for all supervisors.
(i) Village employees must work the scheduled day before and the day after vacation.
(j) The Mayor may from time-to-time establish minimum hours of vacation time that may be taken at one time.
(k) An employee who is a retire/rehire is not entitled to payout of unused vacation at the time of the second retirement.
