Article XII
NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS
Regular Village elections shall be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in each odd-numbered year beginning in 1959. Nominations for elective offices of the Village shall be made only by petition, signed by qualified electors of the Village not less in number than three percent (3%) of the number voting at the last preceding general election for the office concerned, and shall be accompanied by the written acceptance of the nominee; provided, that a nominating petition for the office of councilman shall be signed by at least five (5) qualified electors, and petitions for other elective offices under this Charter shall be signed by at least twenty (20) qualified electors. An elector shall sign not more than one petition for the same office, the date of the first signing of a petition controlling in the event of multi-signing. All qualified electors shall be eligible to sign a nominating petition for an elective office chosen by the electors at large; only electors of the ward shall be eligible to sign a nominating petition for the office of councilman from that particular ward. The nomination of such candidate shall be made by a separate petition. No primary election shall be made for the selection of any candidate for any elective office of this Village; and no nomination for any such office shall be of any effect unless made as required by this Section. The ballot, or the ballot labels on voting machines, used in the election of officers of the Village shall be without party mark or designation. The names of all candidates for any Village office shall be placed upon the same ballot, or the same voting machine, and shall be rotated in the manner provided by the laws of the State of Ohio. Except as otherwise provided in this Charter, the laws of the State of Ohio shall govern the nomination and election of the elective officers of this Village. Such nominating petitions shall be filed with the Board of Elections of Cuyahoga County not less than ninety (90) days prior to the date of said election. Write-in votes for Village candidates shall be permitted only if a duly nominated candidate cannot participate due to death or other disqualification; or if there be fewer candidates for any office than provided for by this Charter.
