6-1-2: SPEED LIMITS:
   A.   General Regulations: The speed limits for vehicles traveling on public streets in the village are hereby established as shown on the sign map. It shall be unlawful to drive vehicles at a speed in excess of the established speed limits. Upon conviction, the driver of the vehicle shall be subject to the penalty in section 6-1-7 of this chapter. Village employees are authorized and directed to place speed limit signs at or about the locations shown on the sign map to give notice of the applicable speed limits. (Ord. 707, 8-23-2012)
   B.   Construction Or Maintenance Speed Zone:
      1.   The superintendent of public works is authorized to establish construction or maintenance speed zones in accordance with 625 Illinois Compiled Statutes 5/11-605.1. The superintendent may determine that the preexisting established speed limit through a highway construction or maintenance project is greater than is reasonable or safe with respect to the conditions expected to exist in the construction or maintenance area. Should such a determination be made, the superintendent shall determine the maximum safe speed limit that vehicles may travel in the construction or maintenance area.
      2.   Where the superintendent has determined the maximum safe speed limit that vehicles may travel in the construction or maintenance area, he shall establish a construction or maintenance speed zone. The superintendent shall cause signs to be erected giving proper due warning that a construction or maintenance speed zone is being approached. Such signs shall indicate the maximum speed limit in effect and also state the amount of the minimum fine for a violation which, pursuant to 625 Illinois Compiled Statutes 5/11-605.1, is a two hundred fifty dollar ($250.00) fine for a first time violator.
