(a) Promotion within the Fire Department for the Chief shall be made from all those firefighters with at least ten years of experience as a firefighter with the Gallipolis Fire Department.
(b) The City Manager, using an appropriate evaluating process, will interview each applicant and select the most appropriate candidate, subject to approval by the Gallipolis City Commission. If there are no qualified candidates, then the position will be open to the public and the City Manager using an appropriate evaluating process will interview each qualified applicant and select the most appropriate candidate, subject to approval by the Gallipolis City Commission.
