1321.03 MINIMUM SIZE OF FLUE LINING; SMOKE PIPES.
   Irrespective of whether the fuel used is coal, coke, wood or oil, the minimum size of the flue lining for various heating devices shall be as follows: For warm-air furnaces or low-pressure steam or hot water boilers, and for fireplaces not less than eight and one-half inches by thirteen inches flue lining; for stoves, ranges and other forms of room heaters, not less than eight and one- half inches by eight and one-half inches. No smoke pipe shall be within nine inches of any woodwork or wooden lath and plaster partition or ceiling, except when a loose-fitting sheet of metal is placed above the pipe, then the distance from the woodwork may be reduced to six inches. Where smoke pipes pass through wooden lath and plaster partitions, they shall be guarded by galvanized iron thimbles built in at least eight inches of brick work or other incombustible material. No smoke pipe shall pass through any floor or a roof having wooden framework or covering. No wooden mantel or other woodwork shall be placed within six inches of the side or ten inches of the top of any open fireplace.
