All public elevators in the village shall be licensed. The village shall semi-annually inspect and upon passing such inspection issue a license allowing the operation of such elevator. The inspection and licensing of elevators shall be for the purpose of determining the safe operation of these devices and shall, among other things, include a review and inspection of door mechanisms, slides, controls, lighting, structural soundness and mechanical condition using standards accepted by the elevator industry. If the inspection reveals safety deficiencies the elevator shall immediately be closed to public use until it is fully repaired and has passed reinspection. Upon passing inspection and payment of fees as required herein the village will issue a license for a six-month period.
